Who we are and our philosophy

AlfaWorks is the performance arm of the Alfa Workshop. We are an Alfa Romeo specialist in the UK of 30 years standing and with a sector leading record for customer satisfaction. Our ethos is to provide the best possible solutions for your performance needs. The products we sell are all thoroughly tested by us and you can rest assured that the solution we have found will be the best available on the market. Every product on the site is designed to meet a specific need, and the performance gain, design and relevant solution is documented in the part description and subsequent fitting guides.


We also offer a bespoke fitting service where we can offer a one-stop shop supplying and fitting the parts you require, together with the ongoing servicing. As with all our clientele, you will always get a straight answer from us about how any performance upgrade will improve your 4C.

4C Philosophy

Our philosophy with the 4C is simple: make it light, make it fast. We see the excellent 4C chassis that Alfa has given us as just a starting point, and by adding higher quality parts we can put the 4C truly into the supercar bracket. We differ from many performance car specialists in that we have personally developed the parts we supply and are working exclusively with our parts manufacturers who are among the best and most reputable in their fields to achieve what we believe is an exceptional product.


We decided on a simple formula which is either cost per bhp increase, or per kilo reduced, on a roughly 1:4 basis. So if a modification gives us either a 1 bhp increase or reduces the weight by 4kg, we were willing to pay X amount. The 1:4 ratio comes from the 4C's present power to weight ratio. For anything performance-wise that was less than this figure, we had to justify it on either aesthetic grounds, practical grounds or not do it.

Product Under Development

We are happy to give you insight into our development plans. You can register your interest in projects from the consultation to the final testing stages, and we will update you regularly with progress. The speed that a project progresses can often be related to the amount of interest expressed, so please register if genuinely interested. We will open Pre-Orders towards the end of final testing, which will guarantee a reservation from the initial production run. Once the project is about to go on general release, it will be moved to the Products section below.

Engine

  • Turbo
    This is a hybrid turbo developed for especially for Alfaworks, the turbo housing and the exhaust turbine remain the same, but the compressor stage of the turbo is modified to achieve a higher flow rate. Depending on a number of factors this should take power outputs on the 4C to between 320 and 335 bhp. This product is awaiting testing and will be an exchange unit. We do not yet have an availability date. Performance Category: Track Day.

  • Paddle
    Carbon fibre paddle extensions. Just spit balling! We are looking into this reasonably seriously but what do you think of the look?. Performance Category: Race, Track Day, Fast Road.

  • Brake discs
    Carbon disc. Latest technology continuous-carbon fibre construction superseding more traditional chopped-fibres carbon-ceramic brakes. Advantages include much improved heat management and therefore better performance/weight and consistent performance at all operating temperatures, and lower wear rates. Weight savings of around 20kg in unsprung weight when compared to iron discs. Performance Category: Race.

Suspension

  • Suspension arm front
    FRONT right lower wishbone. These are in development, the silent block bushes in the body side of the wishbone are replaced with cross axis joints. They consist of a ball with cylindrical taper on both sides and a continuous bar through the middle. Although they are similar to the ball joint in terms of function and structure, their anchorage corresponds to that of rubber bearings. In contrast to rubber bearings, cross-axis joints are able to transfer extremely high dynamic forces and have no aligning torque. Cross-axis joints are preferably used if a stiff control arm connection is desired and they add a far greater degree of control to changes in dynamic camber. We do not have an estimated delivery date yet. Performance Category: Race, Track Day.

Bodywork

  • High performance carbon fibre bodywork
    The prototype panels have now been trial fitted to a 4C. Our body panels are moulded in Carbon fibre 3k 2/2 Twill 200gsm. The front splitter is moved forward slightly to create slightly more down force and the use of carbon fibre has allowed us to trim the weight of the bumper right down. The side sills are also made of carbon with the left hand side of the car having an air intake for the gearbox cooling while on the right hand side of the car is a cold air intake for the engine. The rear bumper and diffuser are also modified to increase the size of the diffuser to aid with ground effect while the extensive use of Carbon fibre reduces the weight considerably. This product is in the final stages of testing and is available to order now.

  • Helmholtz Exhaust
    Exhaust system with Helmholtz resonator. This is a straight through system and it uses a resonator to remove the drone at around 80mph. It comes with carbon tips which can be angled as you want. The system also utilises two different diameter pipes to produce a sound with much more depth than Alfa's race exhaust and at idle it retains a purposeful note where as the Standard system can sound flat and unfinished. We have designed the system so you can remove the Helmholtz resonator and fit the SuperSport right hand pipe on instead for those days you want to make NOISE! Weight 6kg only 1.5 kilos heavier than Alfa's race system. See our Video. Performance Category: Fast Road.

  • Super Sport Exhaust
    Super sport exhaust system WITH OUT resonator. This is our entry level system, it combines the advantages of a free flow exhaust with a deeper more melodic tone, It comes with carbon tips as standard and it is considerably lighter than Alfa's race exhaust. It also has the advantage that the Helmholtz resonator can be substituted for the right hand pipe if desired. Performance Category: Race, Track Day.

Engine management


  • ECU
    Engine control unit (stage 1, remapped to 280bhp 420 Nm). Turbocharged petrol engines have always been regarded as the sports flagship engine for good reason. They boast far higher power & torque figures than a non-turbocharged power-plant with similar displacement. They are also ideal candidates for programming as the ECU also controls the wastegate (turbo boost pressure control) thus allowing more air to be pumped into the engine and the more air in the more power you can get out. Filtration


  • Filtering Element
    K&N performance air filter. To meet minimum filtration standards, paper air filters must be thick and/or the fibers must be tightly compressed and dense. Therefore paper elements that provide adequate filtration are more restrictive to air flow by design. Additionally, as a paper filter becomes more and more clogged, the pressure inside the filter drops while the atmospheric air pressure (approximately 14.7 psia at sea level) outside the filter remains the same. It's like using your lungs to draw the air out of a plastic milk bottle. When the pressure differential becomes too great, the bottle will collapse. The same thing could happen to your paper filter, although it is unlikely. But what will happen could be just as severe. An excessively high pressure differential created by a restricted filter can literally pull dirt particles through the paper medium. In other words, the performance of a paper filter, i.e. air flow through the filter and its ability to protect your engine, DECREASES near the end of its service interval. The Allegerita wheel uses OZ’s HLT (High Light Technology) exclusive manufacturing process, which achieves mechanical features comparable to those of a forged wheel both in terms of weight reduction and structural strength.
